Cyfri lawr i Gwerin Gwallgo / Count down to Gwerin Gwallgo

January 30, 2017

Dwi'n wirioneddol gyffrous i fod yn rhan o Gwerin Gwallgo eleni. Nawr yn ei thrydydd flwyddyn, mae'r cwrs wedi mynd o nerth i nerth. Eleni mae'r nifer mwyaf erioed o bobl ifanc wedi wedi cofrestru.

Sefydlwyd y cwrs gan trac: Traddodiadau Cerdd Cymru yn 2015 oherwydd y diffyg darpariaeth mewn cerddoriaeth gwerin i bobl ifanc yng Nghymru. Roedd mudiadau fel trac a Clera yn gwneud gwaith arbennig yn cynnal gweithdai, ond doedd dim cwrs preswyl ar gael yn arbennig i bobl ifanc. Gwnes i cynllunio'r cwrs yn seliedig ar fy mhrofiadau yn mynychu cyrsiau tebyg fel Feis Rois yn yr Alban, Folkworks yn Lloegr a Ethno yn Sweden.

Gwnaeth mynychu cwrs Ethno pan oeddwn i'n 16 mlwydd oed newid trywydd fy mywyd a fy ngyrfa, a hwn oedd y cam cyntaf ar y daith i sefydlu Calan. Dwi'n gobeithio eleni ar Gwerin Gwallgo, bydd y bobl ifanc sydd wedi cofrestru yn cael yr un fath o brofiadau bythgofiadwy a ges i. Byddaf yn adrodd holl hanes y cwrs eleni fan hyn, felly gwyliwch y gofod...

I'm so excited to be part of Gwerin Gwallgo this year. Now in its third year, the course has gone from strength to strength, and this year we've had a record number of young people registering.

The course was set up by trac: Music Traditions Wales in 2015 as there was a gap in the folk music provision for young people here in Wales. Organisations such as Celra and trac were doing great work holding workshops, but there wasn't a residential course specifically for young people. I designed the course based on my experiences visiting other youth residential courses such as Feis Rois in Scotland, Folkworks in England and Ethno in Sweden.

Attending Ethno when I was 16 years old changed my life and my career; this was the first step in the journey to starting Calan. I really hope that the young people who have registered for Gwerin Gwallgo will have the same amazing experiences as I had. I'll reprt on this year's course here, so watch this space....
